Right now we are looking for a Senior Ruby Developer to cover during a parental leave as of March 2nd and around 6 months (which can be prolonged).

What you’ll do 💡
As a developer in the Seller team, you’ll work closely with experienced backend and frontend developers, as well as colleagues from UX, Product, and Analytics to shape our products.

Here at Hemnet you will:

• Contribute to the development of new features and the improvement of existing ones.

• Take part in architectural and technical discussions and decisions.

• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code, and review others’ code.

• Work in pairs or mobs to learn together and improve quality.

• Help plan the team’s work, clarify and prioritize the backlog, and break down goals into actionable steps, most of our teams use Scrum.

Who we’re looking for 🤩
You are a confident Ruby developer who thrives in a collaborative team environment, someone who enjoys solving real problems and delivering clear value together with our agile development team. Modern frontend development in Next.js is not a problem for you. Hopefully you are familiar with Node.js as well.

You have:

• Several years of experience as a system developer in a commercial setting.

• Solid hands-on experience with Ruby.

• Experience with Next.js and frontend development.

• Knowledge of software design principles, automated testing, and CI/CD.

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Docker and cloud infrastructure (we’re on AWS).

• You understand the importance of time-to-market, performance, code quality and team collaboration.

• You prefer working in iterative development cycles and incremental deployments.

• You’re used to working in agile, cross-functional teams.

It’s a plus if you already have:

• Experience with Node.js.

• Knowledge of GraphQL, experience building or using APIs in that format.

• Interest in AI-powered developer tools (e.g. ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code).

Our tech stack is dominated by Ruby in the backend with the addition of some modules in Node. We use Next.js in the frontend. Going forward we use Node for new development. You will be key in making this shift.

My name is Johan Boberg, I joined Hemnet in June 2025, prior to Hemnet I worked at Blocket for many years. I have a long career behind me as Engineering Manager and before that, as Backend Developer.
